IJMB simply stands for Interim Joint Matriculation Board, established in 1975.

It is an Approved, Proven and Certified Advanced level programme moderated by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and NUC and has a coordinating body in various tertiary institutions and different study centres nationwide. It is designed to cater to admission seekers and to provide admission for students into 200 Level in any Nigerian university without JAMB.

The programme at the initial stage was designed to provide an opportunity for candidates who cannot gain admission to regular degree programmes in Northern Universities due to different reasons.

The entry qualification into the programme is purely Ordinary Level result (O’level) also, candidates awaiting result can also apply.

Candidates would then be lectured for the stipulated period at their respective Study Centre and thereafter sit for the final examination.

Upon completion of the programme, successful candidates accordingly utilize their IJMB certificate to secure admission into 200level in any Nigerian tertiary institution via Direct Entry.

The tutorial classes available in the various study centres gives students adequate preparation for the IJMB exam which will facilitate their admission into 200level in their respective preferred institutions.

Candidates who enrol for IJMB will undergo lectures from August till May and the final exam will be conducted every late May or early June. IJMB Programme Duration

The programme runs for a maximum period of one academic session (9-10 months) divided into two (2) semesters. Academic activities in all our centres begin in August and end in May. The examination is conducted every late May or early June.

IJMB Programme Eligibility

The programme presents prospective students with the opportunity to gain admission into 200level in any institution without writing JAMB. It is open to all interested students, and it offers all courses including Medicine, Law, Mass Communication, etc. There is no limit to the courses prospective students can study with the programme.

Prospective students who are secondary school leavers get the opportunity to get into universities and other tertiary institutions using their 0’level results. Also, students who are yet to get their 0’level result (WAEC, GCE, NECO) can apply for IJMB using awaiting results. The most important piece of information is that every candidate must have their 0’level result before the end of the IJMB programme.

Consequently, upon completion of the IJMB programme and after passing the exam, students will then obtain the Direct Entry Form or DE Form from JAMB and fill the forms to transition into 200level.

IJMB Requirements

IJMB requirements and primary entry qualification is your ordinary level result. Before anyone can apply for IJMB, such must have completed his/her secondary school education.

However, candidates awaiting ordinary-level results can also apply for the IJMB programme. Candidates who are rounding up secondary school can also apply for the programme.

How to Make Use of Your IJMB Result

To use your IJMB result to gain admission into 200 Level, you need to visit the JAMB website or their nearest office to obtain a D.E form (Direct Entry), and fill them in correlation with your IJMB result, by then you have the opportunity to choose a first and second choice university.

IJMB Academic Calendar

The academic calendar starts in August every year and it ends by May for the registration for the following year. By August, while the registration is still going on, the lectures for the session will start, which is usually within the mid of August and early September.

The lectures will run through to December from that August/September. In May the revision for the session will start. The examination can start in late May or early June, and examination last for two weeks. By late September of the same year, the result will be released.
